Review:

Peacemakers

Can you judge a book by its cover? In the case of this book, that cover is littered with positive endorsements and having read it I can understand why.

Peter Dixon looks at peacemaking in our modern world: there can be few issues that resonate with the Christian gospel more than this. Christians should have something to contribute in this area – and this book does. It works for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is written by someone with practical experience of both the armed forces and leadership of a charity (Concordis International) promoting reconciliation in areas of conflict. Secondly, it is a measured work that benefits from scholarly research drawing on both secular and Christian sources. Finally, the writer combines both humility and authority in tackling the complexity of modern conflict.

My hope is that this book will be widely read by church leaders and Christians involved with the armed forces. For others, it might be a little hard going as it is a scholarly book which does not give opinion lightly.

HIGH: A work of integrity confirming how a Christian perspective can contribute much to complex modern issues.

LOW: At times I wished that Peter Dixon would express his own opinions more strongly.
