Books:
I did it His way
Billy Graham argued that you can dismiss a man’s theology but you can’t argue against a changed life. Hugh Hill writes as he speaks, in the language of ordinary people and with some rare biblical insights. His radical John- Newton-type conversion is compelling. Glaswegian-born Hill’s testimony has been shared with hundreds of people – especially men – across the UK.
Hill had been a successful Scottish businessman who sacrificed his wealth on the altar of alcoholism, a curse of his city still today. He then added a broken marriage to the mess of his life.
The book’s unusual structure distinguishes it from the average autobiography, while its contents justify his choice of title. The tragedy of his former life was to give credence to this Scot’s subsequent evangelistic ministry enabling him to win many to the Christian faith and successfully help in the recovery and building up of three churches.
HIGH: Interspersing the compelling narrative are gems of practical theology.
LOW: No apologia for leaving Glasgow, a city plagued with unemployment and alcoholism.
