Books:

The Third Tribe

This debut novel by Rob Chidley is a tale of raw hope overcoming the bleakest of realities. Ruth belongs to the Miller tribe, a nomadic clan struggling to survive in a desolate world. It’s a land sucked dry of water, where hate and fear dominate as tribes engage in bitter fighting for precious resources.

Ruth is a young, determined woman searching for a sense of belonging which has so far escaped her. She learns of a mysterious people, The Third Tribe, which hold the promise of hope for the destitute and oppressed of this dark world.

It is a story of freedom from cruelty and is compellingly told with masterful description. Ruth quickly gains the empathy of the reader, and the narrative is immediately engaging. The tale can be interpreted on many levels and is an intriguing and intelligent story, meant for readers of all ages and all beliefs.

As a work of Christian fiction, this book is a refreshing and welcome contribution. It is exciting, well written and leaves the reader gasping. I look forward to reading his next work.

HIGH: Brilliant description, well conjured narrative build-up in the first parts of the story and gripping action.

LOW: The redemption of the captives lacks the descriptive quality of earlier parts of story which makes it hard for the reader to suspend disbelief. The character of Peter could have been explored in greater depth.
