Review:
Walking with God: Talk to him. Hear from him. Really
Eldredge’s books have sold eight million copies – that’s a lot of books! His favourite theme is to challenge Christians to rethink what they’ve been taught about their faith and their identity. His influential best seller ‘Wild at heart’ calls on men to rediscover their masculine identity in God. His latest contains joyful, intimate first person journal-style highlights from a year of John’s walking, talking relationship with God. This book is like Marmite – you’ll either love it or loathe it. I loved it as I found many echoes of my own thirst and struggle for authenticity and intimacy with my maker. The author gently lays himself bare and offers to the reader what he has learned and where he continues to struggle. This is not a formulaic 10-steps to God ‘how-to’ guide, but rather a door into another person’s quest to know and love God better.
High: His love of creation, discovery of joy in simple things making it a pleasurable and positive read.
Low: The evocative descriptive passages will drive Marmite haters away.
