Review:

Eternity Invades

Vicky Beeching gives me hope. Having studied theology at Oxford University and been mentored by the likes of Tim Hughes and Brian Doerksen, she is serious when she says, ‘Getting good theology into worship lyrics is vital.’

This set of growers feels fresh, giving new angles on old ideas. You may fear déjà vu at a song called ‘Blessing and Honour,’ but it really does inspire glimpses of heaven. Elsewhere, a couple of militant David Crowder-like bridges, an ambient feel to ‘Listening’ and an acoustic jam outro set this disc apart from the crowd. Throughout, she conveys it all with feeling and a warm quiver to her voice.

Best of all are words that drive powerful prayer, such as ‘Break our hearts with the things that break yours... change the way we think and how we spend until we look like Jesus again.’

HIGH: Capturing thoughts that worshippers actually want to express.

LOW: Those predictable big guitar intros that fade as quickly as they start.
