Review:
Newworldson
There is a strong primal energy about this album. From the funky opening of ‘You Set the Rhythm’ the whole thing feels like the band recorded it largely live with few overdubs. I guess it sits somewhere between 90s band Extreme and the Spin Doctors but I can also hear references to 80s Joe Jackson and even the Pretenders in the rhythm department.
What I do know is it rocks. Having spent 30 years of my life critiquing artists as an A and R man all I can say is I find this holy and yet also wholly refreshing. Newworldson’s sense of melody is wonderful with fabulous hooks and choruses and so inspiring lyrically.
We have a saying in the music business: Don’t let the good blind you from the great. Well, this is great. Buy this album.
HIGH: ‘In Your Arms’ and the gospel tinged, ‘There is a Way’.
LOW: There aren’t any.
