Review:
The Farewell Show
Seventeen years of inspiring audiences across the globe deserve a great send-off and this vibrant Delirious? finale is as exhilarating as their My Soul Sings DVD was disappointing.
Emotion is the oxygen of this final show, where – as the Cutting Edge Band – they play their own support slot, performing early material. The permutations of a Delirious? set must run into thousands, but few could top this one, which highlights the best of each stage in their career. Those who like powerful celebrations will find ‘Bliss’ and ‘Solid Rock’ both aptly named, while introverts who prefer slow-burning worship music should adore the moodily magnificent ‘Obsession’.
The DVD format is essential. Miss it and miss out on Martin Smith giving his bullhorn away, the band’s families onstage, crowd reaction, all the show visuals, extra music and a half-hour tour documentary.
Also available in Blu-ray, this global family party is fully worship and fully rock.
HIGH: The package does justice to their 17 years.
LOW: One low-spot, ‘The Happy Song’ is a tad corny.
