Review:

The Saving One

The ‘Christian male rock band’ planet is pretty crowded these days…so what does it take to be noticed? Starfield seem to have found the answer with a mix of lilting melodies, honest lyrics and songs that really do focus on Jesus.

Instantly attractive to the ears, these well-written songs also find a rhythmic resting place in the heart. The energy of ‘Overwhelmed’ and ‘Top of our Lungs’ sits comfortably with the more sensitive ‘Something to Say’ and ‘I Need a Father’ – and whatever the tempo, the vocal always rides the sonic waves with a warmth and a depth that resonates. Some good congregational songs too, notably ‘No Other Saviour’ and ‘Glory is Rising’, as well as the anthemic title track.

HIGH: Believable and real.

LOW: Ten songs with an average of under four minutes per song feels a bit pre-packaged for radio use.
