Music:
Glory to you
This is an album that does what it says on the tin. The
quality of musicianship is everything you would expect
with musicians like Nicki Rogers and Eoghan Heaslip
involved and the songs are very much in the genre
of today’s contemporary worship.
The creators, I believe, are genuinely seeking to
bring glory to God, and songs such as ‘Answer for the
World’ and ‘King Over All’, do just that.
As a whole it doesn’t break any boundaries or set any
new records, but if you like this kind of worship, and
there are hundreds of thousands of people who do, then
I have no doubt you will be blessed by listening to it.
However, while middle-class, middle England will
love it (and there’s nothing wrong with that) I am
desperate for something new, exciting and innovative.
Pray for new hymn writers of the calibre of Isaac
Watts, John Newton and Charles Wesley to be raised
up where the bland will no longer lead the bland, but
people will be strangely warmed by what they hear.
Amen?
HIGH: Always Faithful’ by Nicole Brown – a beautiful,
strong and yet tender lyric.
LOW: This record sounds safe, comfortable and generic.
