Review:

The Door

I generally shy away from live albums as they don’t tend to be that good, but this is one exception I’ll gladly make. There is a passion and commitment to the quality of the songs that is more than equalled by the delivery of them. Not only is it incredibly professional and well done, but the songs feel God-breathed.

They embrace Chinese culture and instrumentation and this works really well. ‘Humanmanifesto,’ a poem by Gerard Kelly, is beautiful and incredibly powerful. Stand-out tracks are, ‘It takes faith’, and ‘Tomorrow’ which is uplifting and encouraging, with incisive melodic hooks and wonderful lyrics. I wish I’d been there in Beijing, and I encourage you to buy this album just as soon as you can.

HIGH: ‘Rise to praise’ echoes Elton John’s ‘Saturday night’s alright’ for its sheer energy and the way it rocks with radically different lyrical content.

LOW: Despite being an excellent live offering, it still lacks the polish of a studio release.
